Save your Browser Bookmarks Online

Did you know that you can now store and share your browser bookmarks  (aka favorites) online and access them from anywhere! The delicious service allows you to do just that.  It is an excellent social bookmarking site that makes web pages easier to share, remember, search and organize.

Once you save your bookmarks online - they are very easy to access as well. The Del.icio.us service encourages you to organize your bookmarks with informal tags instead of the traditional browser-based system of folders, although some services feature categories/folders or a combination of folders and tags.

The folks at CommonCraft have produced yet another masterpiece. Awesome tutorial - Clear and Easy. I shared it with some of my older folks and they get it too!

Retrieve YouTube Videos from your Browser’s Cache

retrieve YouTube Videos from your browsers cache

In this episode, we’ll show you how to retrieve previously watched YouTube videos from your browser’s cache. In this episode, we use Window’s XP and the FireFox browser. You can then download YouTube videos and watch them offline using any flash player.

Cached files in Firefox can be found in this Folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\[profile]\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[random].default\Cache\

The files are saved with 11 character random names without any file extension. To watch youtube videos rename the cache file as .flv

Better way to view your cache files is to install this FireFox plug-in called Cache viewer:

Note: once you install this plug-in the Cache folder no longer exists in the above path

Search Smarter, Search Faster with Google Suggest

Search the Internet Faster with Google Suggest

With Search Engine Optimization (SEO) being such a hot topic, we thought creating an episode on a new way to search the Internet would make a good Technology video tutorial. So here it is.

There is a new way to search the internet - It’s called Google Suggest.
Google suggest is both smarter and Faster.
To use Google Suggest, simply use this URL:

http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en

Google suggest:

  • predicts what you are searching for
  • suggests alternate search queries as you type that help you focus your search
  • provides relevant results in real-time

The service is amazing, almost telepathic. Google uses the overall popularity of searches "other" people have conducted, to show you alternate queries in real time. The suggestions change as you add or delete characters from your search query. So by refining your searches "up-front", Google makes searching more convenient and faster. It also saves a lot of time because it keeps you from having to reformulate your search query over and over again.

An interesting alternative to Google: AlltheWeb Search

Although, Google is the grand-daddy of all search engines, it is not the only service out there. There is actually a better search tool called AlltheWeb, which rivals Google in both - Index size and Technology. But for some reason, this search engine (called LiveSearch) which has now been acquired by Yahoo, has never become very popular.

It is very similar to Google Suggest, but ther are two key differences:

  • As you start typing your search query, LiveSearch not only gives you real-time suggestions, but also dynamically displays active search results without the click on button.
  • The second great feature of AlltheWeb is Audio search which is not offered by other engines. It allows searching for "audio" files similar to image specific or video specific searches offered by other services.

So try out Google Suggest and AlltheWeb and transform the way you search the Internet.

Good Luck
