Search the Internet Faster with Google Suggest

With Search Engine Optimization (SEO) being such a hot topic, we thought creating an episode on a new way to search the Internet would make a good Technology video tutorial. So here it is.

There is a new way to search the internet - It’s called Google Suggest.
Google suggest is both smarter and Faster.
To use Google Suggest, simply use this URL:

http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en

Google suggest:

  • predicts what you are searching for
  • suggests alternate search queries as you type that help you focus your search
  • provides relevant results in real-time

The service is amazing, almost telepathic. Google uses the overall popularity of searches "other" people have conducted, to show you alternate queries in real time. The suggestions change as you add or delete characters from your search query. So by refining your searches "up-front", Google makes searching more convenient and faster. It also saves a lot of time because it keeps you from having to reformulate your search query over and over again.

An interesting alternative to Google: AlltheWeb Search

Although, Google is the grand-daddy of all search engines, it is not the only service out there. There is actually a better search tool called AlltheWeb, which rivals Google in both - Index size and Technology. But for some reason, this search engine (called LiveSearch) which has now been acquired by Yahoo, has never become very popular.

It is very similar to Google Suggest, but ther are two key differences:

  • As you start typing your search query, LiveSearch not only gives you real-time suggestions, but also dynamically displays active search results without the click on button.
  • The second great feature of AlltheWeb is Audio search which is not offered by other engines. It allows searching for "audio" files similar to image specific or video specific searches offered by other services.

So try out Google Suggest and AlltheWeb and transform the way you search the Internet.

Good Luck
